As a result of the introduction of the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has the power to issue infringement notices as an alternative to litigation for alleged contraventions of certain consumer protection provisions. These powers heed a warning to business to be vigilant in complying with the laws to avoid financial penalties and damage to reputation, especially in the field of advertising.
